Outsourcing for Small and Medium Business

Outsourcing for small and medium business is one of the possible ways to reduce your costs during the ongoing World Crisis. But the main question that a businessman asks himself or herself is - will outsourcing be effective for my business and what possible risks will I take if I choose this type of business relations? We will try to answer these questions.

While this working scheme was used in manufacturing of various products for decades, it gave new possibilities for small and medium businesses only in the last seven eight years. New types of outsourcing appear every year, and it is needless to say, that the Internet is the key factor in the development of outsourcing. If large companies had the ability to outsource years ago, medium and small businesses are receiving new possibilities today.  For example five years ago it was impossible even to think about retaining a lawyer in India, but today it is absolutely real. The main things that your company can outsource today are IT, computer programming, web-design, marketing, translation and various types of paperwork. If you can outsource these parts of the working process then you can start searching the web for subcontractors.

Risks of outsourcing: The main risk is quality, so before you outsource part of your work flow be sure that your subcontractor is a professional and has enough experience to deal with your project. At the beginning of the outsource era trustworthy providers were a rare thing, but now outsourcing has become a serious business. Thousands of companies are struggling to work on this young but rapidly growing market and preserve a good reputation. Another risk is responsibility.  If the subcontractor fails to do the job in time and you lose money because of this, you won’t have the possibility to sue this company and receive compensation. Still you always have the possibility to give the provider a negative rating and reputation, which will most probably end the successful path of his company.

The year 2009 will be one of the best years to start outsourcing. The World Crisis affected everything from IT to manufacturing and thousands of experienced workers lost their jobs. Many of them are turning to outsourcing right now and this boosts this industry with a new, but professional labor force. The companies which have the possibility to change their working schemes and cut their costs will survive these hard times. Also the survivors will have the biggest price for any talented businessman - a renewed post-crisis market with new possibilities, where the large companies have lost some of their shares of the market.

Don’t be scared by all the possible risks and problems.  Outsourcing is successfully used by thousands of small and medium business companies not just in the U.S. but also in the entire world. You just need to understand this working scheme before you give a project to a subcontractor. And remember, the number of outsourcing success stories is growing every day.
