Every kind of business has its days of ups and downs. Sometimes the inflow of funds doesn’t flow as quickly as its outflow. And sometimes every bill is cleared right on time. Whatever may be the situation, every company looks for the measures to cut costs and to increase profitability. With the recent economic slowdown, the need to cut costs is pronounced even more. Companies must look for creative ways to save on incurring expenditures and motivate employees to do the same. Here are some innovative ways of cost cutting that will benefit your company in the long run:
Using Technology
You can cut down your costs drastically with the help of advanced technologies. With Internet penetrating every walk of life, you can easily use this medium for web conferencing instead of personal meetings. Make online presentations to your customers, and digitize your documents thereby saving on paper. Moreover, digital documents are easy to store and retrieve. Put Internet based services like emailing, VOIP, and Skype to the best possible use and save substantially on the long distance phone calls. In your office itself, you can use instant messengers from the likes of MSN that can cut down on the phone usage.
Diversification
It is a good measure of cost cutting to train your employees for a number of roles. It helps you to have backups in case someone calls in sick or leaves the organization on short notice. Distributing the work and allocating additional jobs other than the main job not only throws challenges to the employees but also saves you from hiring additional employees. The fields with fluctuating workloads are heavily benefited with the cross training of employees and hence this measure typically increases productivity.
Cheaper options
It is often the routine processes that use the maximum resources. But there are ways to cut down on these costs. Look for cheap but quality alternatives for these kinds of processes. Take the case of VOIP, an Internet based service for phone calls. It substantially reduces the amount of money spent on phone usage and is favored by many companies. Personally, I like Skype. Since I make a lot of phone calls to clients, I use this service. Skype costs only $3 a month or so for virtually unlimited US calling. If you need to call overseas, the rates are very inexpensive. In addition, if you have a client overseas who also uses Skype, you can make those calls completely free using the internet instead of a phone.
Cost effective marketing
Although it depends on the kind of business as to what marketing approach to follow but certain things, if kept in mind, can reduce the costs. Consider using email newsletters and offers instead of paper documents. You can even print flyers at home by designing them with the help of software technologies like MS Office Publisher and printing them by using your own printer.
Go Green
Adopting green solutions not only saves cost but also environment. You can use motion sensors for water and light switches and can also find vendors for purchasing your waste or scrap products. Some companies even use solar energy driven lights for their campuses. Instead of using disposable cups for beverages, you can ask employees to bring their own mugs in wake of going green.
These tips or ways of cost cutting will surely prompt you to look at your business in a more intriguing manner and will definitely benefit you in your cost cutting campaign.
